Coronavirus vaccine update: Even though these candidate vaccines have produced encouraging results in early stages, a clearer picture can only emerge when a diverse population gets tested COVID-19 vaccine: Even as multiple vaccine candidates have entered various levels of trials, experts believe that a coronavirus vaccine might not be found before next year. So far, globally, ten vaccine candidates are getting tested on healthy volunteers, while 114 are in preliminary stages of development. Even the Indian pharma firms are actively contributing to the cause. Union Health Minister  Harsh Vardhan  recently said that there are 14 candidate COVID-19 vaccines for the virus in India which are at different levels of development. China's CanSino adenovirus vaccine,  Oxford University 's adenovirus vaccine, Moderna's mRNA vaccine, Novavax's vaccine are among the most promising candidates globally so far. The pharmaceutical company is conducting clinical trials with German firm BioNTech on several probable vaccines in Europe and the United States. "If things go well, and the stars are aligned, we will have enough evidence of safety and efficacy so that we can...have a vaccine around the end of October," Pfizer CEO  Albert Bourla was reported by the Times of Israel as saying. The report also cited UK drug firm AstraZeneca's head  Pascal Soriot  who said that one or more coronavirus vaccines could start rolling out by the end of this year (2020). AstraZeneca is working in partnership with the  University of Oxford  to develop and distribute a vaccine being piloted in Britain. Also Read:  Coronavirus vaccine: Indian rese

Doubts over Moderna vaccine emerge after volunteer says he started getting chills within hours of getting home from his second dose. Track latest coronavirus vaccine updates Less than six months after the world first learnt about the novel  coronavirus  (SARS-CoV 2) in Wuhan, China, there currently are more than 110 teams in contention, speeding up efforts to produce a ready vaccine. A lot of vaccines are in the development phase in India as well, and medicinal trials are also going on for treatment. The reason behind the rush is a staggering number of Covid-19 cases (past 6 million) and death toll (more than 350,000 globally). In India alone, there are 151,876 corona cases as of May 27. Large pharmaceutical companies such as Gilead Sciences, Pfizer, Moderna, among others, are racing to find a successful vaccine. In India, Ramdev's Patanjali has also joined the race to develop  coronavirus  vaccine. How soon can the world expect a Covid-19 vaccine? A vaccine would normally take yea

Drug Target Review ’s round-up of the latest developments in 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19 or SARS-CoV-2) therapeutics and vaccines. Novel broad-spectrum antibiotic compound effective against coronaviruses Researchers have identified new compounds with activity against the novel coronavirus called COVID-19 and other coronaviruses eg, severe acute respiratory syndrome virus (SARS-CoV) and Middle-East respiratory disease virus ( MERS-CoV ). cientists working towards a broad-spectrum antiviral able to combat all the coronaviruses identified a target – a ‘main protease’ that is essential for viral replication. According to the team, enteroviruses, such as those causing foot and mouth disease and the common cold, also have a similar protein called the 3C protease for viral replication, so can also be treated through this target. Using X-ray crystallography to examine the structure of the proteases, the researchers designed a series of α-ketoamide compounds that would bind

Coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccine latest update: Novavax starts tests in Australia; ICMR vaccine human trials in six months

Coronavirus (Covid-19) Vaccine Latest Update: Novavax begins injecting vaccine candidate into people in Australia; human trials of ICMR's Covid-19 vaccine might begin in six months Vaccine Latest Update:  While US biotechnology company Moderna Inc and  China ’s Cansino Biologics Inc may have stolen a march in development of a Covid-19 vaccine, reporting successful results, US firm Novavax has begun injecting  a vaccine candidate into people in Australia on Tuesday with hopes of releasing a proven cure this year. With Covid-19 infecting more than 5.5 million and killing 346,326 people across the world, according to Johns Hopkins University tracker, the US is planning a massive testing effort involving more than 100,000 volunteers and half a dozen of the most promising vaccine candidates to deliver a safe and effective jab by the end of 2020, Reuters reported.

COVID 19 vaccine explained : why so much time?

As laboratories around the world race to develop a vaccine for the novel coronavirus , many people have volunteered to take part in a controversial testing method called human challenge trials. As of April 27, a global initiative called 1DaySooner had registered 3,817 people in 52 countries who had signed up for such trials. The method, which involves intentionally infecting volunteers with the novel coronavirus, is being promoted in order to “speed up” the process of preparing a vaccine. How are vaccines usually developed? In most regulatory regimes, vaccines take several years to develop, and their development typically proceeds through three phases of clinical trials. In Phase 1, small groups of people receive the trial vaccine. During Phase 2, the clinical study is expanded and the vaccine is given to people who have characteristics (such as age and physical health) similar to those for whom the new vaccine is intended.
